Marrickville Yoga Centre

In my post “Iyengar Yoga – A Beginner’s Guide” we explored what Iyengar Yoga is, the benefits, my first experience and my top 5 tips for getting the most out of this traditional form of yoga. Today we take a closer look at a local Sydney studio, Marrickville Yoga Centre.

What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar Yoga is a form of yoga based on traditional Hatha yoga postures with an emphasis on precision and alignment. Props are used to assist with the correct alignment during postures.

– Aid digestion
– Reduce anxiety
– Great for mindfulness and relaxation
– Enhance confidence

Based in the heart of Marrickville, MYC is run in a spacious studio up a short flight of stairs on Marrickville Road.
Easily accessible, the train station is just a 10 minute walk, buses frequent Marrickville Road and street parking is easy enough to find. The large open windows facing Marrickville Road let in plenty of natural light and a cool breeze. Small, open shelving is available to store belongings during class and there are 2 change rooms if you plan to change at the studio.

The teachers are friendly and very supportive, always eager to improve students practice. Full classes often have 2 teachers to ensure everyone can have corrections and assistance.

MYC offers casual passes and one off workshops or for those willing to commit to a course (and save some $$$) they offer a range of passes. Click here for pass details.

  1. Hubby and I do yoga at home. I’ve not done this style. We are old so we are careful to do things correctly. Yoga is great exercise.

    Have a fabulous day. 🙂

  2. This sounds like a great place to try this type of yoga. I love the quote they use outside. Yoga does wonders for me but I have not tried Iyengar .

  3. That looks wonderful! I get two free yoga classes a week with my gym membership but don’t get out of best soon enough (night owl here) I need to start going! I like the idea of this one being very guided, it’s easy to get into poses that go to far and hurt you.
