A Vegan’s Review of Betty’s Bohemian Beach Cafe, Port Douglas

Fresh, organic smoothies, indulgently rich cacao buckwheat pancakes and great locally roasted coffee all served from this cute little bohemian cafe in the heart of Port Douglas.

Not far from the sands of Four Mile Beach along the main street of Port Douglas (Macrossan St) sits this little gem of a cafe with it’s eclectic Bohemian feel. One mermaid-teal coloured wall is lined with dozens of colourful cushions and handmade dream catchers and macrame wall hangings are available purchase.

As soon as you walk through the door you can feel the cafe’s relaxed vibe and after choosing a comfy cushioned seat and perusing the seasonal menu customers can order at the counter.

Brunch is served all day and is made using produce from local growers. The coffee is supplied by the locally roasted Blackbird Espresso and can be made with almond, coconut or soy milk.

Vegan options include:
– blueberry, banana and acai smoothie bowl, seasonal fruit, chia and toasted coconut (v)(df)(gf) (if ordered without bee pollen!)
– house made granola, coconut yoghurt, dried fig, strawberry and rhubarb gel (v)(df)(gf)
– cacao, vanilla and buckwheat pancakes, mixed berries, cacao coconut cream and candied walnuts (v)(df)(gf)
– macro bowl | brown rice, avocado, sprouts, edamame, cucumber and kim chi, black sesame and miso dressing (v)(df)(gf)

Sunday mornings are a pancake kinda morning at our house. So when my partner and I were looking for a breaky spot for the last breakfast of our tropical weekend getaway (a wonderful birthday surprise) and we came across Betty’s new menu and the newly added pancakes, the choice was easy on this rainy Sunday morning.

The pancakes were rich yet not sickly sweet and the smoothie bowl was a well-sized bowl of refreshen acai smoothie topped with fresh fruit and deliciously sweet, crunchy toasted coconut flakes – just be sure to order it minus the bee pollen!

The rain cleared by the time we finished our meals which was the perfect opportunity for us to walk down to the weekly Sunday markets held at the other end of Macrossan Street in the park by the wharf looking out over the Coral Sea.

  2. I love how simple clean and cozy the space looks 🙂 And more importantly, the food looks amazing 😀 Can’t I have a smoothie bowl AND pancakes? If forced to choose, I’d go with a smoothie bowl though 🙂
