Sitting on a corner spot by the train station at Dulwich Hill behind it’s bright yellow doors and windows is the charming cafe, Dear Delicious.
The design is eclectic, charming and comfortable with bright accents in yellow seen in the doors, windows and chairs. Heaters warm the space during winter making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your breakfast and coffee in the morning before catching the train which is conveniently directly across the road.
I had visited DD a few times and had always been disappointed with the service. I’m wondering if that could have been explained by the busy weekend rushes or new staff because the breakfast service during the week was much better. In any case, the food is enough to visit DD.
Activated almonds, cashew, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia, golden flax, coconut, cranberries, seasonal fruit topped with house-made organic yoghurt and your choice of milk.
Make it Vegan | Ask for it vegan and it will be served without yoghurt. Then choose between soy, almond or coconut milk.
On previous visits DD had been out of stock of their granola. I had tried the Millet Linseed Porridge ($13.95) instead which was so warm and tasty I didn’t mind missing out on the granola. Though now that I’ve been starting to eat (and enjoy) breakfast more often I was happy to finally be able to try the granola! The “new old” Granola was rich, nutty and mixed so well with coconut milk. It was extremely filling and I ended up leaving some behind (mostly cashews, so many cashews!) yet I was full for the rest of the day.
The Millet Linseed Porridge is warm, comforting and just sweet enough. The roasted almonds, cashews, coconut crunch and seeds add texture and the poached pear and berries provide enough sweetness that even I didn’t reach for the extra sugar.
Instead of coffee why not opt for a nice hot Dear Delicious mug? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I ordered this warm ginger and turmeric mug. I half expected it to be sweet although it was warm and creamy with a subtle ginger and turmeric taste, perfect for that cold morning. And so good for you.
Do you eat breakfast every morning or, like me, are you more of a morning coffee/juice/smoothie kind of person?
